Frequently Asked Questions

What is eBodyGuard®?
eBodyGuard’s entire mission is to be the Bridge to Smart, Safe Cities: “Keeping You Safe Wherever You Are™.” At eBodyGuard®, we believe that a smart city cannot exist if its community does not feel safe. Our perspective is that providing public safety for everyone while maintaining the social contract of respecting and protecting individual private data is essential to community wellbeing. This is why we created the “Smart, Safe Cities: My eBodyGuard Program™,” a global initiative supported by the U.S. Department of Commerce International Trade Association to use technology to keep people safe wherever they are.
As such, eBodyGuard® not only provides patent-pending innovative technology that prioritizes security and user protection, but also combines it with highly experienced people and processes to deliver on that promise. With major investments in certifications and compliances in FBI CJIS, FERPA, COPPA, and HIPAA, we’re committed to securely storing your evidence and information and keep your data private, never sharing or selling it.
What is a Smart, Safe City?
A smart city has traditionally been defined as cities that implement technology for community needs. However, nowhere in the definition of a smart city has there been a consideration for the primal safety pillar, which is a crucial part of societal well-being that impacts all individuals, the economy, infrastructure, transportation, urban planning, and vocational outcomes. A new definition, a Smart, Safe City, is needed. eBodyGuard® and the Department of Commerce, I.T.A. ‘s “Smart, Safe Cities: My eBodyGuard Program™” upholds the primal safety pillar by combining technology with enhanced safety and connection, providing a substantial societal, transformational change for all. With this program, real and perceived safety concerns that threaten the core of our society are addressed, and cities that become Smart, Safe Cities are able to thrive culturally, economically, and communally.
At this time, we are in great need to boost morale to build incredible and formidable bridges. We need this so we can create and foster new innovations that forge even greater economic pathways for our future. These bridges create brighter tomorrows we never dreamed possible.

What is the My eBodyGuard First Responder Portal™?

When Law Enforcement has the My eBodyGuard First Responder Portal™, they will receive your My eBodyGuard App™ emergency call history, as well as the audio and video files attached to your 911 calls. Additional evidence (such as eBodyCam recordings taken outside of the 911 call) may be released to Law Enforcement if a crime has occurred.

Is eBodyGuard® reliable?
Yes, eBodyGuard® is one of the most reliable and secure safety technologies on the market. Our technology integrates directly with emergency operating systems for swift and reliable communications. Unlike our competitors, we remain committing to protecting your information online, and we comply with strict government regulations regarding data and information privacy, including FBI Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS), HIPAA, COPPA, and FERPA. This means we also have the PII (Personal Identifiable Information) of each individual’s data secure. eBodyGuard® is the only FBI CJIS certified safety app, meaning your evidence cannot be altered, deleted, or destroyed. In a world of cybersecurity challenges and questions, the My eBodyGuard Program™ was designed to support both the community and our government agencies.
eBodyGuard® will never sell or share your personal information to third parties like data brokers or insurance companies.
Is it kid-friendly?
Yes, the My eBodyGuard Program™ is easy to use and kid-friendly. We recommend that parents assist with setting up the app and showing children how to call for help using the one-tap button and voice activation. eBodyGuard® is committed to protecting children’s privacy and complies with COPPA and FERPA data privacy regulations. By providing children with accessible and secure safety tools, the My eBodyGuard Program™ ensures that children have a private way to record bullying, harassment, or other dangerous incidents, and have a reliable way to contact both 911 and their parents in case of emergency.
How does the Safety Card work?
Your personal Safety Card is a secure way for you to store personal information in the event of an emergency. You can enter your medical information, information about your emergency contacts, family members, pets, vehicles, Protection Orders, and names and descriptions of people you may be afraid of. Please note, your first “eBodyGuard” will also be your emergency contact.
If a crime is committed, your Safety Card may be released to law enforcement agencies upon request. This provides greater awareness about your personal information and concerns that you indicated before the crime occurs. For example, if you list a person as “Someone I’m Afraid Of” in your Safety Card, and that person then commits a crime against you, it allows investigators to see patterns of violence and builds a stronger case. If an investigation occurs, the Safety Card also ensures that law enforcement are aware of your medical conditions, are able to contact your family, and ensure that your pets and vehicles are secured if necessary.
How does the audio recording work?
There are two ways that audio recording is captured.
Option one: When you contact 911, the My eBodyGuard App™ begins recording the communication and continues recording while you are on with the 911 Telecommunicator. This audio recording will be stored and will be bound to the call record. This recording cannot be deactivated in the My eBodyGuard App™ and will be shared in the My eBodyGuard First Responder Portal™.
Option two: When you have previously enabled the Record Audio Evidence in the App, the surrounding audio will begin recording after your call ends. It will last for the length of time you have selected under Settings (up to 15 minutes), and you can choose to deactivate it.
How does the eBodyCam work?
The eBodyCam is a feature of the My eBodyGuard App™ that enables you to record secure video evidence using just your phone. With the eBodyCam, you can capture incidents such as, bullying, assault, interpersonal violence, road rage, medical emergencies, or any critical incidents at the highest possible resolution.
You can use your eBodyCam with or without making an emergency call. To record an incident without calling emergency services, click the purple eBodyCam button on the “Alert Home” screen of the App. If you place an emergency call, you will also see an “eBodyCam” button appear which allows you to start a video recording. Your recorded videos are stored securely in the cloud (not on the smartphone) so they cannot be altered, damaged or destroyed—even if your device is broken, lost, or stolen.
How does GPS tracking and sharing work?
When you place a call through the My eBodyGuard App™, your GPS location at the time of call is automatically sent to First Responders via the First Responder Portal. If you’ve chosen emergency contacts or your “eBodyGuards,” they will also receive your current location at the time you contacted 911.
How does Voice Activated emergency calling work?
A key feature of the My eBodyGuard App™ is hands-free, Voice Activated emergency calling. You can choose any phrase you wish to be your “Safety Phrase.” Our advanced voice recognition will only respond to the sound of your voice, and works from up to 30 feet away from your device.
IMPORTANT: You must be logged into the My eBodyGuard App™ and have it running in the background for Voice Activation to work. For security and privacy reasons, we require users to log in to the My eBodyGuard App™ every 72 hours.
Who are "My eBodyGuards"?
Your “eBodyGuard(s)” are trusted family members or friends who will be automatically and directly notified if you make an emergency call. They will receive an automatic safety alert via SMS with your live GPS location attached. You can edit your eBodyGuards under “Locate Home” > “My eBodyGuards.” Make sure to select the “emergency contact” box if you want this person to receive automatic safety alerts. Your eBodyGuards must verify their phone number in order to receive SMS alerts.
The first “eBodyGuard” to appear in your Safety Card is listed as your Emergency Contact and their information is shared with 911 telecommunicators when an emergency call is made.
How do I access my evidence?
All information and potential evidence captured on the My eBodyGuard App™ is automatically uploaded to your My eBodyGuard Portal™. Your login information is the same username and password that you use for the app.
By storing your evidence in an external, private cloud, eBodyGuard® protects your evidence from being altered or deleted. Even if your phone is lost, broken, or stolen, or if the app is deleted, your evidence will still be preserved.
Can I use the evidence in court?
Evidence collected by the My eBodyGuard App™ is admissible in court, so long as it is deemed relevant and necessary to be released. Our compliance with FBI CJIS protocols for the storage and handling of evidence makes it much easier for investigators to verify your digital evidence. This may improve the speed and efficiency of court proceedings and rulings.
What information is provided to law enforcement on the My eBodyGuard First Responder Portal™?
When you initiate a 911 call, only your name, GPS location, and your eBodyGuard’s contact information are shared immediately with the 911 telecommunicator via the First Responder Portal™. The information in your My eBodyGuard Portal™, such as your Safety Card and evidence, is not shared with the 911 telecommunicator.
If a crime occurs, law enforcement may sumbit a request to receive your Safety Card information and audio/video evidence captured within 5 minutes of the 911 call placed via the My eBodyGuard App™. Additional evidence stored in your My eBodyGuard Portal™ that is deemed relevant to the incident (but is not attached to the 911 call) may be only released to law enforcement with a subpoena duces tecum. Only by court order will we provide additional information/evidence.
How do I know which law enforcement agencies in my area have access to the My eBodyGuard First Responder Portal™?
Thanks to our integration with emergency response systems, each 911 authority in the United States is able to receive emergency calls and live location of individuals placing a call through the My eBodyGuard App™.
You can contact your local law enforcement agency and ask them if they have access to and support the automation of evidence into the My eBodyGuard First Responder Portal™. If they do not currently have a contract with eBodyGuard® they can reach out to us at eBG@ebodyguard.org or call our help desk at (888) 819-7636 to get connected.
Does eBodyGuard® work without internet or WiFi?
Yes, the My eBodyGuard App™ works without WiFi or cellular data. eBodyGuard® has satellite emergency calling and locating capabilities that allow you to call for help and be found even in remote, off-grid areas. eBodyCam recordings taken offline are stored locally until service or internet connection is reestablished, at which point they will be automatically uploaded to your My eBodyGuard Portal™.
It’s important to note that while you can be in a dead cell zone and still reach 911 with satellite connection, not all calls and not all data will reach emergency operators 100% of the time. For the best connection, having a cellular or internet connection is always recommended.
Read our Terms of Use for more information.
How do I test the emergency calling?
We recommend that all users make a test call to ensure that the app is working properly and all information is uploaded correctly to your My eBodyGuard Portal™. To make a test call, go to “Menu” > “App Settings” and turn on “Test 911 on emergency”. Return to the home screen and press “Call Emergency” or say your chosen safety phrase. Check your My eBodyGuard Portal™ to ensure that your test call and audio/video recordings have been uploaded.
Once testing is complete, make sure to re-enable “Dial 911 on emergency” in the App Settings.
